McDermott Elementary was so honored to host a team of 12 youth volunteers from Pleasant Valley Church of Christ for service work at our school. They were amazing, clearing weeds in several vital areas and organizing clothing, school supplies, and cleaning storage bins to prepare us for the 2026-27 school year. We are grateful for your continued community partnership, and look forward to growing our work together in the coming school year!

What a fun day! Happy Wall Project partnered with us to do a mural in our courtyard today. We had alumni that haven't been in our building since March of 2020 when we shut down for Covid, neighbors and even a school board member stopped by to put some paint on the walls! Thank you to everyone who pitched in today!

Dear Mustang Families - with less than 2 weeks left, please help our students FINISH STRONG to meet our 2025-26 Community School Attendance Goal and prepare them for next year. Attendance counts daily thru 5/21, so every day present matters, and each absence reduces our chance of success. We promise to make our final stretch fun for all, and we thank you for your partnership and cooperation! GO MUSTANGS!!!

As we wind down these last few weeks of school, lets help keep our school community healthy and safe, we ask that all students, staff, and families follow these illness guidelines:
If a student becomes sick, they should remain at home and avoid returning to school until they are fully recovered. Students must be free from fever, vomiting, or diarrhea for at least 24 hours without the use of medications (such as fever reducers like Tylenol or ibuprofen) before returning.
This 24-hour period ensures that symptoms have truly passed and reduces the risk of spreading illness to others. Even if a student feels better after taking medication, they should continue to rest at home until they can remain symptom-free without medication support.
We encourage good hygiene practices, including frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home when feeling unwell.
By following these guidelines, we can work together to maintain a healthy and safe learning environment for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation!
