Our community just keeps showing up! Our mural collaboration with Happy Wall Project is finally complete and we are over the moon about it. Thanks to everyone who helped make this project happen!

McDermott Elementary was so honored to host a team of 12 youth volunteers from Pleasant Valley Church of Christ for service work at our school. They were amazing, clearing weeds in several vital areas and organizing clothing, school supplies, and cleaning storage bins to prepare us for the 2026-27 school year. We are grateful for your continued community partnership, and look forward to growing our work together in the coming school year!

What a fun day! Happy Wall Project partnered with us to do a mural in our courtyard today. We had alumni that haven't been in our building since March of 2020 when we shut down for Covid, neighbors and even a school board member stopped by to put some paint on the walls! Thank you to everyone who pitched in today!

☀️🍎 FREE Summer Meals are back for LRSD students and families! The Little Rock School District Child Nutrition Department is offering FREE breakfast and lunch for any child 18 years and younger at multiple school locations across the district this summer through the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) Program! Please help us spread the word so families can take advantage of these free summer meals!

Jerrick Johnson excelled at this past weekend's Special Olympics Summer Games, capturing a gold medal in the 200-meter dash and a silver medal in the long jump. From the excitement of the opening ceremonies to the heat of the competition, he showcased true determination and sportsmanship! Way to go, Jerrick!

McDermott students were blessed to interact with two @mylrsd graduates this week! Kemdi Ekeanyanwu came and spoke to 4th-5th Grade students about his research on the benefits of good sleep. Ava Walker, Miss Greater Hot Springs, spoke to K-3rd Graders about how they can become "Earth Helpers" and take care of the environment and keep Arkansas beautiful!

Dear parents and guardians,
All medication kept at the school must be picked up by the last day of school May 21, 2026. Students are not permitted to transport medications home. Any medication remaining at school after the last student day will be properly disposed of. This includes all prescription and non-prescription medications, inhalers, and EpiPens. If you are unable to pick up the medication by the last day of school, alternate arrangements can be made by contacting the school nurse prior to the end of the year. Dear Mustang Families - with less than 2 weeks left, please help our students FINISH STRONG to meet our 2025-26 Community School Attendance Goal and prepare them for next year. Attendance counts daily thru 5/21, so every day present matters, and each absence reduces our chance of success. We promise to make our final stretch fun for all, and we thank you for your partnership and cooperation! GO MUSTANGS!!!

McDermott Elementary wishes to thank our amazing Partner In Education Capital Community Church for feeding our staff last Friday during Teacher Appreciation Week! Pastors Jimmy and Maranda Leonard have an incredible food ministry, and cooking is their specialty! We enjoyed a delicious meal of Chicken Las Vegas, rice, green beans, and Honey Bun Cake for dessert -- yum, yum!!! We love ya!!!

Bus 20 C is late!
As we wind down these last few weeks of school, lets help keep our school community healthy and safe, we ask that all students, staff, and families follow these illness guidelines:
If a student becomes sick, they should remain at home and avoid returning to school until they are fully recovered. Students must be free from fever, vomiting, or diarrhea for at least 24 hours without the use of medications (such as fever reducers like Tylenol or ibuprofen) before returning.
This 24-hour period ensures that symptoms have truly passed and reduces the risk of spreading illness to others. Even if a student feels better after taking medication, they should continue to rest at home until they can remain symptom-free without medication support.
We encourage good hygiene practices, including frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home when feeling unwell.
By following these guidelines, we can work together to maintain a healthy and safe learning environment for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation!

Another day, another big dose of love! Huge shout out to Dash Heating & Cooling for sending their sunny joy fairy over to share some love and community with our teachers and staff! We really enjoyed lunch!
